Good evening, Superintendent, Chair, Vice Chair, and all board members. [00:03:35] My name is Dr. Jawanda Rollins-Fells, the proud president of the Virginia School Boards Association. And tonight it is an honor for me to stand here and wish thanks and gratitude to Mr. Graham Page. On behalf of the entire executive committee of the Virginia School Boards Association, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you and deepest gratitude to you, Mr. Page, for your service to the VSBA. [00:04:05] This evening, we would like to share this acknowledgement of service and a plaque to commemorate your participation at the state level for the past two years. Your unwavering commitment to advancing K-12 education has made a lasting impression and impact not only on your local community but the central region of Virginia. Mr. Page's service began with VSBA in 2019 and included the following. In 2019, he was the regional nominating committee [00:04:39] chair. In 2020 and 2023, VSBA's General Assembly Delegate, he has received the following awards. VSBA Academy Awards to include an Award of Excellence in 2023, an Award of Honor in 2024, and an Award of Distinction in 2025. In 2023, Mr. Page was elected by his peers as the Central Region Chair. Thank you, Mr. Page, for your service and to this entire board for your support [00:05:14] of him as he has been providing support for children across the Commonwealth. Mr. Page, at this time, would you please come forward and accept this award on our behalf? Thank you so much. This is completely a surprise. I've served with Graham for the past 10 years, and he is well-deserving of this and many other honors. Thank you. One night you don't wear your jacket. [00:06:51] Thank you. Is there any other superintendent or school board business? Nope. With that, then we move to a public comment. Ms. Crawford, do we have anyone else who signed up? No one signed up. have no one signed up for public comment uh the next item of business then is approval of the consent agenda do we have a motion i move we approve the consent agenda second motion made by miss lee seconded in unison by ms osborne and mr page uh all those in favor um i'd actually like [00:07:30] discussion i um would like to pull um 5.4 the local gifted plan just for further discussion potentially during our closed session during our closed session if there's time today if not at a later time for a discussion oh okay um i don't know if we are allowed to discuss today if it's not we won't be able to put it on the closed session agenda for the next meeting right right we can do that so do we have a modified amended motion i move that we approve the consent agenda [00:08:07] save for 5.4 second okay motion made by ms leet to amend uh the consent agenda motion by excluding 5.4 and seconded by ms spillman all those in favor aye aye opposed motion passes we will discuss this at our next school board meeting thank you um tonight uh we have a close most of our meeting tonight will be closed it's closed because we were talking about issues related to [00:08:47] security I have invited our school board reps four of whom who are here tonight and of course staff may stay but anyone who is not in either category is asked to leave we're going to conduct the entire session in closed meeting do we We have a closed meeting motion. I move that the school board of Albemarle County, Virginia, go into a closed meeting as authorized by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Section 2-2-3711A of the Code of Virginia. [00:09:24] Under subsection 1 for the discussion, consideration, or interviews of prospective candidates for employment and the assignment, appointment, promotion, performance, demotions, salaries, or resignation of specific public officers, appointees, or employees of any public body. [00:09:42] The purpose of this item is to discuss two personnel issues and the application of school board policy. Number two, subsection eight, for consultation with legal counsel employed or retained by the school board regarding specific legal matters requiring the provision of legal advice by such counsel. [00:10:02] The purpose of this item is for school division counsel to provide an update on collective bargaining with the Albemarle Education Association. And number three, subsection 19, for discussion of plans to protect public safety as it relates to terrorist activity or specific cyber security threats of vulnerabilities and briefings by staff members, legal counsel, law enforcement, or emergency service officials. [00:10:29] The purpose of this item is for staff to advise the school board regarding safety protocols at its meetings and regarding measures to prevent theft or misuse of confidential documents and data.
